Meet the OHC Team!
Nickole Bouslog, Open House Center Ambassador
Nickole Bouslog has been working for Open House Center since 2020, starting out as a community advocate before becoming the official Amabassador for the organization. She assists with Open House Center's virtual day programming and comes in-office to help staff in the implementation of daily activities.
Outside of her obligations at Open House Center, she is a member of the Contra Costa Developmental Disabilities Council providing valuable insights as an expert by lived experience and advocating for the I/DD community. She has been advocate all her life and says that she enjoys spending time with the clients and staff members.
James Mercado, Executive Director
James I. Mercado, Executive Director of Open House Center, brings over 25 years of experience in healthcare services, with a diverse background that began in the medical device industry. His technical expertise, strong communication skills, and passion for helping others allowed him to thrive in roles that included staff management and training, where he was recognized for exemplary customer service and leadership.
Several years ago, James shifted his focus to advocating for individuals with disabilities, taking on the role of Administrator at Woodbridge Health Services, an Adult Residential Care Facility. This transition sparked a deep sense of fulfillment, as he dedicated himself to improving the lives of vulnerable individuals. Today, as Executive Director at Open House Center, James oversees programs designed to help clients stay engaged, active, and connected, ensuring they receive the care and support they need. Outside of work, James enjoys restoring cars, road biking, and spending quality time with his wife and daughters.

Louise McClellan, LVN / Clinical Director
Louise McClellan, LVN, is the Clinical Director at Open House Center, where she leads a dedicated team providing exceptional care and engaging day programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). She holds an LVN from the American College of Nursing and Los Medanos Community College, and a Bachelor's in Public Health from CSU East Bay.
With over six years of experience in the I/DD community, Louise has worked with school districts such as San Ramon Valley and Liberty Union, and previously served as a Charge Nurse in a skilled nursing facility. Since joining OHC in 2017, she has focused on client wellness, multicultural awareness, and leadership training.
Passionate about advocacy and connection, Louise says, “I love working at OHC because it allows me to truly get to know my clients and what’s important to them.” She values the center’s balance of professional growth and family-oriented support, helping her thrive as both a mother and healthcare professional.

Rhoda Perez, Administrative Assistant
Rhoda Perez began her journey with OHC in 2018 as an Activity Coordinator before quickly rising to Team Leader and now Administrative Assistant. She first entered the field in 2014 as a Direct Support Professional in residential care homes, where she developed a deep commitment to supporting adults with developmental disabilities.
Rhoda thrives in her multifaceted role, enjoying the variety each day brings and the opportunity to take on new challenges. “I love all the clients”, she shares. “I always joke, ‘Can you please take me out of my office? I love working with the clients’. Visiting the homes is one of my favorite parts of the job”.
Outside the office, Rhoda’s passion for music shines. Whether singing along to her favorite songs or sharing artist stories with clients, she believes in music as a powerful tool for joy and connection. “Music helps bring back memories—it’s healing and uplifting” she says.

Geanine Fluker, Recreational Activity Leader
Geanine Fluker, Recreational Activity Leader at Open House Center, joined the team in May 2018 after connecting with OHC staff through her previous role. With over six years of experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, Geanine brings both heart and skill to her work. “I love that OHC is family-oriented. I love the staff and the clients” she says.
Starting as an Assistant Activity Manager, Geanine advanced to her current leadership role through dedication and initiative. She strengthened her computer skills through one-on-one training, helped launch OHC’s Zoom Social programming during the pandemic, and established organized systems that have become the foundation for activity management.
Geanine’s passion is clear: “I really enjoy working at Open House. This is my happy place. Really is”.

Maria Ina Borromeo, Program Manager
Ina, Program Manager at Open House Center, brings a diverse background in healthcare, personal relations, and leadership that uniquely equips her for her role. She is deeply committed to fostering a safe, inclusive environment where participants can build life skills, form connections and create lasting memories through community engagement.
Ina holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy from Liceo De Cagayan University and has supported individuals of all abilities through organizations such as Open House Center, German Doctors, university hospitals and community outreach programs.
Her work in day programming has also allowed her to share her personal passions—cooking, baking, career readiness, socialization and environmental awareness with the participants she serves.

Rajeswari Arumugam, Finance Manager
Rajeswari Arumugam, Finance Manager at Open House Center, joined the team in June 2021, bringing a strong background in accounting and tax services. At OHC, she manages all aspects of finance, including accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll—a comprehensive role she enjoys deeply. “Since I am doing all parts of the accounting field, I like to work here” she says.
What Rajeswari values most is OHC’s mission to support individuals who need extra care. “Previously, I knew the word equality, but OHC taught me the meaning of equitable” she reflects.
Outside of work, she enjoys staying informed by watching talk shows focused on current events, politics, and social issues.

Amparo Isidro, ADL Team Lead
Amparo Isidro, ADL Team Leader at Open House Center, joined the team in June 2019 as an Activity Coordinator. With prior experience providing one-on-one support to adults with developmental disabilities, she quickly stood out for her leadership and dedication, earning her current role through hard work and compassion.
Amparo is known for her strong connections with both clients and colleagues, bringing a positive attitude that inspires those around her. “I like Open House because the people here are flexible, nice, and do good work” she shares. Her favorite part of the job? “The whole thing. I have love for Open House Center”.
Outside of work, Amparo enjoys music and loves to sing karaoke in her free time.

Auwhel John V. Cortez, ADL Team Lead
Auwhel John V. Cortez began his journey with the team in September 2022. Though initially nervous to enter the I/DD field, Auwhel quickly found purpose and fulfillment in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. Inspired by the positivity of his coworkers, he embraced the role with dedication and heart.
Auwhel has since taken on additional responsibilities, including assisting with ADL team management alongside Team Leader Amparo. “OHC has taught me advocacy and compassion. It’s shown me how to be a voice for my clients,” he shares. “I used to hold a different personality at work, but now, I put the clients first”.
Supported by strong teamwork and a welcoming environment, Auwhel has grown personally and professionally. Outside of work, he enjoys playing recreational basketball and cherishes spending quality time with his family.

Sheila Moral, Activity Coordinator / Driver
Sheila Moral, Activity Coordinator and Driver at Open House Center, joined the team in August 2021 after a friend recommended the organization. Before OHC, she was a dedicated caregiver for her mother—a role that shaped her deep compassion for others.
Though the transition to a new work environment was initially challenging, Sheila quickly found her rhythm, supported by a welcoming team and the meaningful connections she built with clients. “I love working here because we are like family” she shares. “Even if it’s hard sometimes, it’s fun—and there’s always laughter. OHC made me realize how blessed I am to help people with disabilities and make them happy”.
Sheila’s strong bonds with both staff and clients are at the heart of her work. Outside of OHC, she enjoys spending quality time with her family on weekends.

Estela Zarate, Activity Coordinator / Driver
Estela Zarate, Activity Coordinator and Driver at Open House Center, joined the team in January 2023. Prior to OHC, she worked in residential care homes serving both children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), where she took on a variety of responsibilities inside and outside the home.
Driven by a passion to learn and grow in the I/DD field, Estela was drawn to OHC’s welcoming environment and meaningful mission. “I love watching the clients help each other and how they get along” she shares. “They’ve taught me how to better support them—and others”.
Known for her upbeat spirit, Estela’s voice is often the first thing clients look for when they arrive each day. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her children, caring for her dogs and keeping her home tidy.

Rico Austero, Activity Coordinator / Driver
Rico Austero, Activity Coordinator and Driver at Open House Center, joined the team in October 2023. As a key part of OHC’s transportation system, Rico ensures clients travel safely between their homes and the day program, using the ride as an opportunity to build stronger connections.
When he’s not on the road, Rico brings his energy to the activity floor—often sparking impromptu dance parties—and supports the team with end-of-day cleanup and preparation. “I love my job because I have good coworkers and upper management” he shares.

Ma Ohara V. Galang, Activity Coordinator
Ma Ohara V. Galang, Activity Coordinator at Open House Center, joined the team in January 2023 with a mission to bring joy and happiness to the clients she serves. Guided by the belief that "in God's eyes, we are equal" Ma Ohara is committed to helping individuals lead fulfilling lives.
She values the family-like atmosphere at OHC and the strong teamwork that makes even the toughest days easier. “No matter how hard the job can be, it will always be easier when we work as a team” she says. Working at OHC has taught her to appreciate and love everyone for who they are, and she is a passionate advocate for the company’s mission of ensuring every individual has the opportunity to pursue a "good life."

Michael Jonathan Quispe Segama, Activity Coordinator
Michael Jonathan Quispe Segama, Activity Coordinator at Open House Center, joined the team in March 2024. With prior experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), Michael assists clients with daily activities, ADL care, and occasionally participates in outings when possible. Fluent in Spanish, he helps teach staff to communicate with him in his preferred language and is also eager to improve his English communication skills.
When asked about his job, Michael shared, “Me gusta trabajar con los clientes y mantenerlos seguros, me hace feliz. Me gusta ayudarlos con sus actividades artísticas” (I like working with the clients and keeping them safe, it makes me happy. I enjoy helping them with their art activities).
Outside of work, Michael loves spending quality time with his family and children.

Jesper Cortez, Activity Coordinator
Jesper Cortez, Activity Coordinator at Open House Center, brings a diverse background to his role, having previously worked in the Philippines in martial arts, kickboxing, event coordination and high-profile entourage roles, alongside volunteering. One of his favorite pastimes is competing in arm-wrestling tournaments.
Since joining OHC, Jesper has deepened his understanding of the individuals served in the community and finds fulfillment in contributing to their well-being. "I’ve gained valuable knowledge and find meaning in serving others" he says.
Outside of work, Jesper enjoys traveling, biking and staying fit through exercise and self-training.

Rene Rose Echon, Activity Coordinator
Rene Rose Echon, Activity Coordinator at Open House Center, moved to California with her daughter in November 2024 and was referred to OHC for her first job in the area. Although she had some understanding of the role, her experience with individuals with developmental disabilities was limited. However, the unwavering support from her coworkers helped her quickly adjust and thrive.
During her training, Rene was inspired by the dedication and care her team showed the clients, which motivated her to become more confident in providing quality care. "It’s a pleasure to assist individuals with developmental disabilities, ensuring they have what they need and bringing positivity to their lives" she shares.
Rene is passionate about continuing to learn and grow within the company, aiming to be one of the most dedicated and compassionate Activity Coordinators at Open House Center.

Kendrew Christanto, Program Systems Analyst
Kendrew Christanto, Program Systems Analyst at Open House Center, joined the team in April 2024. A computer science graduate from the University of California, Riverside, Kendrew is responsible for automating tasks through scripting, generating data analysis reports, managing IT infrastructure and ensuring regulatory compliance using technology.
What he enjoys most about working at OHC is seeing the joy staff bring to the day program attendees. "The best part of working here is utilizing my skillset to improve the quality of life for the I/DD population in Contra Costa County and enabling their community integration through technology" he shares.

Karlo Timenia, Registered Nurse Consultant
Karlo Timenia, Registered Nurse Consultant at Open House Center, joined the team in March 2024. With a background in acute care, occupational health and safety, and school nursing in the Philippines, Karlo brings a wealth of experience to his role. He provides exceptional nursing care while being a strong advocate for the clients he serves.
Reflecting on his experience at OHC, Karlo shares, "Working at OHC has broadened my perspective as a licensed professional and as a person. Serving this population has allowed me to see one of the most beautiful sides of humanity and the nursing profession. Here, I’m able to practice what I know and pour my heart into what I do, working alongside my teammates to care for individuals in need".

Madison Mercado, Transition Specialist Consultant
Madison Mercado, Transition Specialist Consultant at Open House Center, began her journey with the organization as a high school volunteer in 2018. During her college years at Sonoma State University, she worked as an Activity Coordinator, assisting with client socialization and day program activities during summer breaks.
Madison played a pivotal role during the COVID-19 pandemic as a pioneer of OHC’s virtual day programming. She helped develop lesson plans, maintain virtual socialization, and deliver activity packets to homes receiving remote services. This Zoom program continues to accommodate individuals based on their complex healthcare needs.
In 2023, Madison transitioned into her current role as a Transition Specialist, providing one-on-one services to help clients achieve their goals. She works with clients pursuing careers, entrepreneurship and supervises the volunteer program, supporting individuals from all backgrounds. Madison is passionate about giving a voice to individuals in the I/DD community, ensuring they take the lead in their own lives and decisions.
Outside of work, Madison enjoys reading, traveling to Arizona, spending time with family and friends, and writing her own book.

Julie Franco, Recreational Therapist Consultant
Julie Franco, Recreational Therapist Consultant at Open House Center, began her journey with the organization in 2017 as an Activity Manager before transitioning to her consultant role in 2021. Julie holds a Bachelor's degree in Arts Education from San Francisco State University, where she also completed coursework in Therapeutic Recreation and Outdoor Recreation. She earned teaching credentials in both Art and Special Education from SFSU and Chapman University.
Julie’s career began at an early age, babysitting and later working at her father's garden supply store in Clayton, CA. With her special education credential, she taught kindergarten, 1st grade and middle school classes. She also volunteered with veterans, individuals in rehabilitation and adolescent psych units, incorporating drama and art therapy. Julie further contributed to the field by teaching DSP training courses for 8 years through the ROP-Department of Education in Pleasant Hill.
At OHC, Julie has created and implemented activities based on client preferences, keeping them engaged and happy. She’s also taught livelihood skills, including gardening, where clients grow flowers and vegetables. Many clients affectionately call her the "teacher" for the valuable lessons they learn from her.
Julie feels honored to work with OHC’s clients, saying, "Open House Center is a special place, and I am grateful to continue working with the clients". Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two dogs, gardening, biking, and dancing.
